plains A. Coastal Plains (AEZ I)
Vegetation is swampy along rivers creeks, mangroves, scattered patches of both low and high bushes and savannah belt. It begins at sea le vel to hieghts of 100ft ( 30m) inland with rainfall of 178 to 182 inches (4450-4550mm) and humidity of 85-95%.
Practices: Rice, root & tuber crops and vegetable production; Subsistence farming (slash and burn) practices back by shifting cultivation.
hill mountain B. Upper Highland Tropical Forest (AEZ II)
It composes the plateaus and mountain ranges located behind the rolling hills running up to an elevation of 1000ft (300m) and 4540ft (1355m) above sea levels.Vegetation is semi-deciduous and secondary forest and high closed forest. Rainfall is bimodal with average rainfall of 115 inches (2900mm) and 65 inches (1625mm)
Practices: Rice, root & tuber crops and vegetable production; commercial ruber, cocoa and coffee production. Subsistence farming (slash and burn) practices back by shifting cultivation.
hill mountain C. Lower Tropical Forest (AEZ III)
It has mid-altitude rolling hills composed of valleys, hills, and numerous water courses. The vegetation is minly evergreen rain forest found mainly in the southern parts of the counties. Average rainfall is 120 inches (3000mm) in Maryland to 164 inches (4100mm) in Sinoe. It has graeter length of dry spell and 2 distinct peaks of rainy season.
Practices: Rice, root & tuber crops and vegetable production; commercial ruber production. Subsistence farming (slash and burn) practices back by shifting cultivation with limited developed rainfed lowland rice activity.
plains D. Northern Savannah (AEZ IV)
It is found only in Northern Lofa and Northern Nimba. The vegetation consists of dense elephant grass (grows up to 10ft) with scattered trees and patches of forest charaterized by high elevation with average rainfall between 30 inches (750mm) and 70 inches (1750mm).
